Spain's Filmax acquires 'The Europeans' and 'The Plan' (Exclusive)

Spanish sales and producing outlet Filmax has picked up international rights to Victor Garcia Leon’s romantic drama The Europeans, and Polo Menarguez’s dark comedyThe Plan. It will distribute both titles theatrically in Spain.

The Europeans is based on a book by acclaimed screenwriter Rafael Azcona, whose credits include Belle Epoque and The Executioner. Set in 1958, it is the story of two single friends who take a trip to Ibiza, lured by the promise of sexual liberation.

The Plan stars Antonio de la Torre and Raúl Arévalo and is about three friends who deal with sudden unemployment in an unexpected way. “It’s a very special movie that caught our attention from the word go,” said Ivan Díaz, head of international at Filmax. “We are aiming for a launch at A-list festivals In the fall.
